The Message Composing panel sets the defaults for every email you write — your sending addresses, the compose window, formatting, and a few helpful safeguards. This guide walks through each setting on the panel.
Step 1 — Open Settings
Open the user menu by clicking your initials in the top-right corner, then click Settings.
Step 2 — Select Message Composing
Select Message Composing from the left sidebar, under the Mail section.
Step 3 — Set your From and Reply-to addresses
Set your default From Address — the address used when you start a new message (your account address, plus any aliases you have configured). Set the Reply-to Address to Use Default (Same as From), or choose a different address where replies should be sent.
Step 4 — Choose your compose window and format
Set the Compose Window to open new messages on the Current Page or in a New Window. Set the Format Mode — the default editor for new messages — to HTML for rich formatting or Plain Text.
Step 5 — Set your reply format and default font
Set the Reply Format used when you reply or forward: Original (match the message you're replying to), HTML, or Text. Under Default Font, choose the default typeface, size, and colour for outgoing messages.
Step 6 — Set the quoting, attachment, and BCC options
Set the three composing toggles:
- Quote Original — include the original message text, quoted, when you reply or forward.
- Attachment Warning — warn you before sending if your message mentions an attachment but none is attached.
- Always BCC Myself — add your own address as a BCC recipient on every message you send.
Note: With Always BCC Myself on, a blind copy of every message you send is delivered to your own inbox.
Step 7 — Save your changes
Click Save Updates to apply your Message Composing preferences.
